The Industrial Information Technology Laboratory
(INIT), headed by Professor Juha Tuominen,
includes a staff of 30 persons. Staff consists
of researchers, teachers and administrative
personnel. INIT Laboratory operates on the
campus of the Helsinki University of Technology
in Otaniemi (Espoo) as well as in the HUT
Lahti Center. Teaching is mainly arranged
in Lahti. Laboratory is administrated in
Otaniemi and research is conducted at both
sites.
Courses offered by INIT are closely connected
with the Laboratory's research areas, Interactive
Environments and Mobile Applications. Information
networks are used in many of the courses
for delivering courses between Otaniemi
and Lahti.
Research is conducted by three research
groups: Active Content Technologies, Mobile
Platforms, and E-Learning. The focus is
on the development of academic and industrial
pilot applications and study of new technologies,
tools and methods.
